Have your Say on Silvertown Tunnel Bus Network proposals

Dear resident,

We are proposing to introduce a new cross-river bus network along with the opening of the Silvertown Tunnel in early 2025. The new network will help to reduce the barrier to movement the River Thames creates by connecting people north and south of the river to job, education and leisure opportunities, supporting regeneration in East London.

Our public consultation is now open, and you have until 11 January 2023 to have your say on our suggested Silvertown Tunnel bus network. To find out more and have your say, visit www.tfl.gov.uk/silvertown-tunnel-buses.

We are consulting on three bus routes in total; existing routes 108 and 129 and proposed new route, provisionally named route X239. We are also seeking your views on three options for specific sections of routes 129 and X239. We are consulting on:

  • A minor change to route 108 so that it accesses North Greenwich Station faster

  • Extending route 129 so that it terminates at Great Eastern Quay, servicing the Royal Docks development zone

  • Options for how the extended route 129 could access the Royal Docks

  • Introducing new high frequency, limited stop route provisionally named X239, operating between Grove Park and Canary Wharf

  • Options for how new route X239 could access Blackwall Way

  • Options for how new route X239 could access Wood Wharf

You can read about the proposals in detail on the consultation page, where you can also find maps of the proposals and FAQs. Our proposals are our initial suggestions for the bus network through Silvertown Tunnel when it opens in 2025.

We want as many people as possible to respond to our consultation. Please share the consultation with your communities, local organisations or anyone you think might be interested in responding or meeting with us to discuss. We have a number of assets that we can share with stakeholders, including posters, flyers and translations of our materials. Please email haveyoursay@tfl.gov.uk to request any further information, ask any questions or request or a meeting with us to discuss the proposals.

To respond to the consultation, please complete our consultation survey on our Have your Say website. Alternatively, email haveyoursay@tfl.gov.uk, write to us at FREEPOST TFL HAVE YOUR SAY (Silvertown Buses) or phone us on 020 3054 6037.

Consultation closes 11 January 2023.

Yours faithfully,

Louise Cheeseman

Director of Buses
